This is the week of the annual Texas Organization of Nurse Executives Conference (Thursday, February 4th and Friday, February 5th at Texas Health Resources Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas.   I will be one of the presenters on Friday to the group. Below is an Abstract of the topic I will discuss. It is based on the work we have done in the Nurses On Board Program using the concepts of Accomplishment Culture©, my individual and team coaching program. It has been an absolute blessing to be a corporate partner and part of the Texas Team: Advancing Health Through Nursing and I look forward to meeting nursing leaders from across the state at this conference.

Abstract:

Based on the work that has been done as part of the Texas Team-Improving Health Through Nursing co-leading the Nurses On Board Program, the interviews of key stakeholders, the 2012 Gallup study*, and years of experience as an executive recruiter, working with both nursing and non-nursing executives, Marion Spears Karr has determined that there are likely biases and stereotypes that pose a potential barrier into non-nursing focused leadership roles for the nurse executive. As healthcare continues to move aggressively towards outcomes based reimbursement, the development of population health initiatives, and the challenges that the aging baby boomer generation is introducing to healthcare delivery, it is absolutely critical that the nurse leadership experience transcend into the CEO, COO and governance roles. The nurse leader has a unique prospective as to the complexities facing organizations trying to meet these demands. Attendees will learn how reframing the way decision makers view the nurse leadership experience will assist in this transformation.
